How do I lock my Facebook profile?

Updated

On your profile, click More (the three dots) next to Edit profile, choose Lock profile and confirm. Not every country or account has this option.

Locking your profile limits what people who aren’t your friends can see. Facebook changes its menus from time to time and offers this option only in some places, so follow the labels you see on screen. These steps are for Facebook in a browser on a computer.

What you need

Steps

  1. Go to your profile

Click your name or profile picture to open your profile.

  2. Click More

Next to Edit profile, below your cover photo, click More (the three dots).

  3. Choose Lock profile

Click Lock profile. If you don't see it, the option isn't available for your country or account; see the questions below.

  4. Confirm

Read what changes, then click Lock your profile. Facebook confirms when your profile is locked.

Questions

What does locking my profile do?

People who aren't your friends see much less: for example, your posts and the full-size versions of your profile and cover photos are limited to friends.

Why can't I see Lock profile?

Facebook offers it only in some countries, and not for every account, for example with professional mode on. You can still choose who sees your posts and profile details in Settings and privacy.

How do I unlock my profile?

Go back to your profile, click More next to Edit profile and choose Unlock profile.

Can Clickable lock my profile for me?

No. Clicky highlights each button and you click it yourself.
