How do I block someone in Gmail?

Updated

Open an email from the sender, click More (the three dots) next to Reply, and choose Block. Their future emails go straight to Spam.

Blocking stops emails from one address reaching your inbox: Gmail sends them to Spam instead. It takes three clicks from any email the person sent you. These steps are for Gmail in a browser on a computer.

Questions

Does the sender know I blocked them?

Gmail doesn't tell them. Their emails simply go to your Spam folder.

How do I unblock someone?

Open one of their emails, click More next to Reply and choose Unblock. Or go to Settings, See all settings, Filters and Blocked Addresses, tick the address and click Unblock selected addresses.

Should I block or unsubscribe from a newsletter?

For newsletters from real companies, unsubscribing is usually better: they stop sending. Blocking only moves their emails to Spam.

Can Clickable block a sender for me?

No. Clicky highlights More and then Block, and you click them yourself.
